Gravity Beats The Fifth Estate, Carrie At Box Office

Gravity
Gravity, the Sandra Bullock and George Clooney movie that's getting rave reviews as a modern classic in just its third week, has added $31 million more to its total take over the weekend, and beat out two highly-anticipated new movies in the process.

The Fifth Estate and Carrie were both much-talked about new movies and both released this weekend. The Fifth Estate, the movie about Julian Assange and the rise of Wikileaks, took in $17.3 million. Carrie, the third remake of Brian DePalma's classic 1976 film starring Sissy Spacek, earned $17 million.

That means Gravity almost earned more than twice what the other two films made, combined. The space flick also beat, Captain Phillips, which took in another $17.3 million.
